Harry Potter question?

this may be have been explained in the books i don%26#039;t remember but what was it that cause Harry%26#039;s parents James and Lily to fall in love because for the first few years they went to Hogwarts Lily thhought James to be an arrogant, bullying jerk and she hated him.

Harry Potter question?
It was never explained in detail. I believe it was Sirius who said that James and Lily didn%26#039;t start dating until their last year at Hogwarts. Their confrontation in Snape%26#039;s memory happened at the end of 5th year, so a whole year passed before they started going out.

James made Head Boy in 7th year, so he must have become more mature and responsible during his 6th year. We know that it was in 6th year that he saved Snape from the prank that Sirius wanted to play on him. Lily may have known about this and been impressed. Even if she didn%26#039;t know exactly what happened she must have seen the change in James, especially since she was Head Girl for 7th year and they had to spend more time together.

This isn%26#039;t explicitly stated in the books, but I like to think that Lily%26#039;s reaction to James bullying Snape made James realize that he was being a jerk. If she hadn%26#039;t gotten so angry at him then, maybe he wouldn%26#039;t have done the right thing and saved Snape in 6th year.
Reply:The reason they feel in love is never clearly explained in the books and I have not seen much in the interviews with JK Rowlings about this. Based on what was said though, in both the book and the interviews, I do not believe that Lily never really hated James although she was upset and angry with him a lot. She did not like his attitude or many of his actions which she found childish and immature, especially towards Snape. You might say that this follows, to a certain extent, Ron and Hermione as they were often at odds with each other throughout the series.

It is clear that James could be a bit of a bully at times and certainly had an ego. I feel that he found Lily attractive when he met her and, of course, a good part of his animosity towards Snape (and Snape%26#039;s towards him) was their competition for Lily. Remus Lupin, when asked by Harry how his mother came to be with James, simply said that he grew up. I think that James fell in love with Lily and found that if he wanted her, it was time to stop acting like a jerk quite so often, and he did.

I think that the most important thing to remember though is that we only have Snape%26#039;s memories of James given in the books. Since they were in competition for Lily neither of them were probably on their %26quot;best behaviour%26quot; towards the other. When you add this to the traditional animosity that seems to exist between Gryffindor and Slytherin it is no wonder that, in Snapes mind, James was a bullying, stuck up little snit. If James was truly a bully he would not have been placed in Gryffindor. Also remember that others who remembered him had a much better opinion of him than Snape ever did.
Reply:This is all theory and supposition, but I think that Lily hated the way James and Sirius acted, but also secretly admired them. Think of how prim, proper Hermione fell for Ron, who was her complete opposite in many ways. If not for Harry as the common friend, they might not have been friends, but kept on annoying each other for years... before developing a crush.

I think this is what happened to Lily. She was so annoyed by James, but she kept thinking about him, probably thought he was cute and that it was a shame he wasn%26#039;t more responsible. In the scene from Snape%26#039;s memory, when he tells Lily that James likes her, she blushes before she tells Snape that she doesn%26#039;t like him. I%26#039;m sure by then she did have a crush on him, but wasn%26#039;t going to admit that to Snape, who hated James.
Reply:It doesn%26#039;t actually say, but we can assume that as James got older he realized he was being a childish jerk and changed.
Reply:it doesn%26#039;t actually say, but lupin (or sirus) said that that in jame%26#039;s 7th year he became less of a jerk. but that didn%26#039;t stop him from making a joke out of Snape...poor Snape.
